This eBook is a product of the Palliative
Sedation project, an EU-funded project in
which ten European partners collaborated to
reach the four main goals of the project:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Firstly, this project would not have been
possible without the sheer dedication that all
its members have displayed from the outset
and throughout. The Covid-19 pandemic
made some aspects of the research very
difficult, as it had a massive impact on the
practice of palliative care and palliative
sedation, creating all kinds of problems in
both professional and personal
circumstances. Despite these difficulties, the
members of the project team, and all other
people involved in the project persevered
and worked vigilantly to see the project
through these tough times. We would like to
thank each and every one of them for their
work, collaboration and inspiration. We hope
this product helps achieve the fourth aim of
the project.
The editorial team would like to thank all the
authors and other contributors mentioned
earlier in the book, with special thanks to Dr.
Eduardo Bruera and Dr. Nathan Cherny for
sharing their thoughts and reflections.
Secondly, we want to thank the healthcare
providers outside of the research

consortium, who participated in the
project through the clinical study, the
interviews or the MCDs for giving us an
insight in their daily work. Without you
there would be no results, just a project
plan.
Thirdly, we would like to thank the EU for
their financial support and practical advice
for the project.
And finally, we would like to sincerely
thank all of the patients and their
significant others for their participation in
the project. We have learned so much
from you. Thank you for sharing your
experiences with us.
